So many people are jumping on the weight loss bandwagon, marketing new, healthy diets, which simply do not work. These generally take two forms, one which offers a new 'plan' or 'schedule', telling you what foods to eat and when. The other version, that's becoming increasingly common, are the 'cleansing' diets. These are the ones that tell you that being fat is not your fault, but the result of some sort of parasite or disease that you can combat... if you buy their product.
The truth of the matter, is that this is plain out not right. For a specific example, there's a product recently that claims they can get rid of obesity by removing the "dangerous worm" called Paragonimus Westermani. They have some horrible pictures of the worm, and of what it does to you, but fail to leave out one important little fact... the only way it can get into you, is if you eat freshwater crabs. Live. When was the last time you ate a live crab? It's not the sort of thing I do, and certainly not something I would do every few weeks, yet these people seem to think that this raw crab eating is common.
In fact, a lot these so-called weight loss methods actually cause more problems then they solve, by encouraging you to remove the healthy bacteria as well as the bad ones. Following their instructions and getting rid of all bacteria can cause you disease, and even death, as your body is no longer defended.
Think of your body as a fortress, and all the bacteria as an army. Like any army, they need food and supplies, and so they consume a small amount of the food you eat. But this is only a small amount, and if they didn't do it you would be wide open to attack from all the bad bacteria out there that want nothing more then to kill you and eat you.
As a case in point, let me share with you one of the more stupid mistakes I've seen recently. One of the 'cleansing' sites I checked out had some photos which they claimed were of 'plaque spots' on the colon. funny thing is, they had forgotten to remove the caption on the picture that read "Candidiasis". Turns out, Candidiasis is a dangerous condition caused by the lack of bacteria.
Now, maybe it's just me, but using a picture of a disease caused by having no bacteria, to try and get you to remove your bacteria, struck me as terribly silly. This person, I thought to myself, obviously doesn't care about checking their sources or giving good information. Why should I place my health in the hands of someone like that? Why should you?
It's entirely up to you of course, but for myself I would rather stick to good old fashioned dieting then take the chance on some new scheme that probably won't work, and might even kill me. I know, I know, dieting is hard work. Well, anything truly worth having takes effort, and even if it's too much work I'd still rather be fat then dead.
The cleansing programs offer a lot of big promises and claims, but they're all either scams, or ignorance. If you want something that will really work, talk to your doctor or dietician, and stay clear of the crazy new schemes that haven't a hope of working. - 15683
